Benefits
“Wheatgrass shots are made by juicing the young grass of the wheat plant, Triticum aestivum. Wheatgrass provides a concentrated amount of various nutrients including iron, calcium, magnesium, chlorophyll, amino acids, and vitamins A, C, and E.”
“Other benefits of drinking wheatgrass include preventing tooth decay, acting as a detergent in the body, reducing blood pressure, and alleviating skin problems and scarring.”

drilling holes:
-always wear a mask since you’re creating GLASS dust!
-wear gloves! otherwise you will get a bunch of highly irritating microscopic slivers
-use a super sharp drill bit + fast speed, don’t let the drill pull through, use light pressure
-tape can prevent most small spider cracks & chips/flakes
-fiberglass is soft enough you can run the drill in reverse, this prevents blowouts on the back side of drill hole
Misc
temp: 60-80
will still grow at 50, just not fast; below that and no growth
above 80 needs air circulation
you can underwater, but can’t really overwater as long as the water can drain. If not enough water, you’ll see your grass start to wilt, it won’t grow as well. sunflower is more particular, you can overwater those.
10×10 tray, does about 1/2 pound of seed (about 1-1.5 cups of seed), 1 pound of sprouts
10×20 tray, does 1 pound of seed (2-2.5 cups of dry seed), 2 pounds of sprouts
17×17 tray, 2.5-3 cups of dry seed, produces 2.5-3 pounds wheat grass
grasses and leafy greens are one of the most complete foods on the planet. as mammals, we need protein, a lot relate protein to meat. the cow ate the grass (today it’s corn) and processed the grass. Humans eat the cow, the grass is part of the food chain. Cows are our edible juicers.
grasses and leafy greens provide protein, but also chlorophyl which helps the hemoglobin. The hemoglobin in our blood help distributes oxygen to our cells.

It would be best to juice young grass, as its more nutritious than grass that is older.

Mold
Beginner growers may confuse the little white fuzzy ‘root hairs’ for mold. These little white fuzzies are actually extensions of the root, and are searching for water. However you can still have little white fuzzies on the root that are indeed mold, but will also most likely attach to the base of grass blades too.
Mold is not a direct result of water, but rather poor ventilation and humidity higher than 70%. Sea salt mixtures will help, but don’t completely eliminate mold. There are other 100% pure organic fertilizers like Perfekt Earth that help your sprouts grow faster and mold free.

“I have grown wheat grass many ways with varying success but I have had the best success using this exact method with plain organic potting soil. I just place the 10 by 20 trays on top of my cupboards over my range and the heat makes them grow super fast. 3x faster than my sproutmaster trays without soil.”
/\ no need to use organic, in fact coconut husk works just as well. the wheat grass is not pulling any nutrients from the soil in the 0-10 days of sprouting, however the soil does help grow faster vs soil-less or hydroponically.
“Shawn from GotSprouts.com doesn’t use rock dust (or ocean grown minerals) YET. Trust me, I had a good discussion about that with him, and I believe he is committed to trying it. When I grow wheatgrass, I use 1/2 organic compost and 1/2 rock dust as the ‘organic soil’ mix. You can also use “ocean grown” minerals to water them, which will add minerals from the sea. (I will have an upcoming episode about ocean grown)? ” -John

1 pound of wheatgrass should yield about 10-13oz juice.
18×18 = 2 pounds wheatgrass (1 pound of seed) or 26 oz juice
2 ounces one a day is fine (in the morning on an empty stomach). Nutrient equivalence to 5 pounds of fresh vegetables. 2 ounces twice a day for healing.
Around 1960, Ann Wigmore healed herself from chewing on lawn grass. Grass is green. Green is good. Any grass you choose is good, but we want the best tasting. And wheat grass is the best tasting. When you grow wheatgrass correctly, it should be sweet tasting grass.
When it’s ready to harvest, immediately cut the entire tray & store the rest in the fridge. Don’t let it continue to grow, each day you don’t harvest it has aged 40 years.

Wheatgrass, sunflower, pea greens, buckwheat lettuce.
“fresh” wheat grass juice will do for you body in one week, would take powdered grasses or pills one year. And it would take frozen grass two years. If you can’t get fresh wheat grass juice, then do a green juice. Always do a live product, not frozen or powdered. Always think live & fresh. 8-10 oz of green juice can be accomplished with 1oz of wheat grass juice. Wheat grass juice is a medicine, detoxifier, blood purifier… It’s pulling heavy metals from your body. Chlorophyll is helping distribute oxygen.
Once you cut, your sprouts & wheat grass should last up to 2+ weeks. If they aren’t, your fridge is not cold enough. It needs to be 38 degrees.
The best way to drink any liquid is to swish it around in your mouth and mix it up with the enzymes. In the morning drink some water, it is the most enzymes your mouth will produce (overnight). You can also just chug your wheatgrass shot straight down, follow with swishing some water to help wash it down & additionaly remove any taste. You can also add any herbs like mint or cilantro. You can also use garlic or ginger, both of which are wonderful detoxers for the body.
Drink your juiced wheat grass as soon as possible, in under 10 minutes or even sooner. If longer than two hours, throw it out.
Ceramic blades vs Stainless Steel blades – cut the same apple with each blade and see which one oxidizes fastest. Ceramic knifes also last longer because they don’t need to be sharpened, but will shatter if you drop it on concrete.
Wheat grass, when it’s grown in 0 to 10 days, is not looking for anything to pick up. It will grow without soil. However, grow it in soil and 10/10 times it will grow faster, taller, darker, greener, more vibrant & more living. It’s not picking up any more or less nutrients in the soil, everything it needs is in the seed. But you are providing the mother (earth) as love. It sounds wishy-washy, but try it yourself. Grow them side by side: use any basic potting soil for one, no compost, because remember it’s not picking up any nutrients. In the other use rock dust or any mineral fertilizer you desire. See first hand the results.
He says any type of potting soil, top soil, he found a bag of super soil at home depot he uses which is steam sterilized. Don’t use miracle grow. Just something that looks good & feels good, dark and looks like good earth.
Wheat grass grows best at 75 degrees.
Where does meat get its protein? What do cows eat? Grass.
When you take that wheat seed, and you soak it and sprout it, it breaks that gluten down instantly in to a simple sugar. There is no gluten in wheat grass. Gluten is only in that unsprouted dried wheat seed. Even with nuts, soak and sprout those too.
He buys his seeds direct from the farms, and they only sell if you’re buying 1k-2k pounds. His seeds are resold through GotSprouts.com – they buy from the same source (2011).
If mold, you have too much stagnant & moist air. Create air cicrulation, either by adding a fan or stacking your seeds thinner. If those don’t work, then change your seed. It’s not the soil causing the mold, unless you’re using an organic compost. He does not use organic compost because often times it has manure or is too acid base. Unlike most plants and vegetables, wheat does not like acid base, it prefers more alkaline. Wheat is an annual seed, it will go to seed & produce itself. Wheat is not perinial, you can’t keep growing it like your front lawn. When you do harvest it, that second growth loses 50-70% of it’s value.
Water does not affect your wheat grass. Use the worst water in the world, it will still grow. If you yell at a plant, you will kill it, except for wheat it doesn’t care. Doesn’t matter if it’s tap water, city water, well water, etc… you won’t change the way it grows.
He says don’t drink distilled water. It’s basically dead. You want live water. A carbon filter will leave the minerals in the water, while still removing the chloring & most flouride. They are sold everywhere, only $20-$30 dollars.
Seeds will last a lifetime, just don’t get them wet. You can put them in a freezer if you want to, but don’t need to. Do not put them in the fridge.
Only 3 things he grows in the soil: wheatgrass, sunflower, and pea greens. Everything else is sprouted hydroponically & eaten.
